The Technocity (Pvt) Ltd was founded by Mohamed Famy Ismail in 1998 - one shop on Galle Road, in a country that received the world's technology years after the world had moved on.
He set out to close that gap and spent the next three decades doing it himself: winning the brands, building the routes, earning the trust of shop owners in towns no distributor had bothered with. Twenty-four of the world's largest technology manufacturers now enter Sri Lanka through the company he built, reaching 600 partners in every district of the island. HP has named it Best Distributor two years running. Lenovo awarded it Partner Excellence for Distribution.
Today a leadership team he assembled carries that work forward - but the standard they hold is still his. It was his decision, when Cyclone Ditwah took 39 schools offline, to commit LKR 80 million and four months to putting them back. He has never accepted that a Sri Lankan child should learn on less than anyone else's.
